3 ways to boost your public speaking confidence🎤
1. Ditch the perfectionism and trust that you will get better over time: Why? Because perfectionism will paralyse you. How can you be expected to be really great at something you haven't worked on? (unless speaking is something that comes naturally to you). Public speaking is a skill and like any other skill, the more you practice the more confident you will become-there's no doubt about it. But if you don't even give yourself the chance you will always hide away and never have the opportunity to improve. Instead of working to be perfect, focus your energy on becoming better.
2. Practice your talk and RECORD yourself. 'Ewww no way' is probably what you're thinking but trust me this is one of the BEST ways to improve your speaking skills. Watching yourself is never easy but how else are you going to know what you're doing wrong? I used to find this really painful when I would look back on the videos I recorded (I would literally cringe) but it was so necessary in order for me to improve.
3. Work on an engaging introduction. You only have 15 seconds to make a powerful introduction. So really the
audience just have a few seconds with you before they get a feel of whether they are going to be engaged or not, so you need to make a strong first impression! For one, you can do this by smiling:) This in itself breaks the ice, creates warmth and breaks rapport with the audience. Say hello, introduce yourself and ask them a question to get them engaged (this will also help you to feel more confident when you feel the 2 way interaction!).
