Sharing my inputs featured in Khaleej Times newspaper @khaleejtimes, dated 1st July'19, but quite relevant even today!
On eve of Ramadan, I want to say I'm proud to live in multi-faith & multi-cultural UAE as there are many religions practiced by people living in UAE, including Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Christianity, and even UAE’s Jewish community is given their due respect.
The UAE Minister of Tolerance, His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, spoke of tolerance to Pope Francis in Abu Dhabi during his historic visit to UAE some years back.
It's the Year of Tolerance and some time back there was setting up of the UAE’s Ministry of Tolerance, which was well appreciated during the Papal visit.
I think the aim of having mutil faith prayer rooms by Abu Dhabi government is to show people appreciation and respect for the diversity of the community and their respective religions in the UAE. I believe this will give people hope that religious communities can play a vital role in creating a harmonious and peaceful society.
The most universal value is love. Scriptures tell us that the main value of the creator of the universe is love. There is a universal wish for an ideal phenomenon where everything will be experienced through the idea of love. I absolutely believe that love is the path we are all called to walk and experience in this lifetime, so definitely this move of having multi faith religious rooms at airports will foster the feeling of universal love and religious acceptance. Moreover, it will encourage tolerance at community and societal level, which is the need of the hour. So I must say this is welcome move by Abu Dhabi Airports and it was much awaited with anticipation, and I'm sure it will give confidence to all communities and will be much appreciated by all living in UAE and elsewhere in the world.
